BT is boosting 4G/5G coverage in UK cities with the launch of the Street Hub 2.0. The first units have been installed in the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea, ahead of a roll-out of 300 units to other cities, including Glasgow, Cardiff, Nottingham, Birmingham, Solihull and Southampton.
Each unit provides free Gigabit Wi-Fi, free phone calls, rapid mobile device charging, charity helplines, local wayfinding via an integrated tablet and advertising space on the unit’s digital screens.
BT is providing up to £7.5m of free advertising space to local businesses until the end of the year and reserving 5% of total screen time for councils to promote local services. In addition, each Street Hub 2.0 unit can be fitted with air quality and CO2 sensors, enabling authorities to monitor the local environment.
