The Covid carousel keeps turning. This month’s decision to end mandatory mask-wearing and to scrap work from home guidance will be welcomed by many; others will view it with concern. When it comes to Covid restrictions, there is no right answer; all one can do is assess the evidence and make a judgement call. Time will decide whether your decision was a wise one or a reckless gamble. Kingswood Tech Events, like every other business, has spent the last two years dancing to Covid’s tune, making judgement call after judgement call in line with the rise and fall in infection rates and the lifting and imposition of Covid restrictions. You could argue that we were over-confident holding our inaugural Tech Live event in September 2021, when the appetite for live events was still untested, but no one who was there on the night would argue that we weren’t right to go ahead with our memorable PrintIT Awards evening in December. Since then, of course, there has been another spike in infections and new restrictions (now lifted), so, reluctantly but I think wisely, we have decided to postpone the Technology Reseller Awards to May 26 and Tech Live 2022 to September 13 (see page 19 for more details). The good news is that this means we have also extended the deadline for entries to the Technology Reseller Awards to February 25. So get writing.
The ‘shoemaker always wears the worst shoes’ is an enduring saw because it is so true – even in the IT industry. In our Q&A on page 23 Diego Tedesco, Director of Wholesale Fixed at Virgin Media O2 Business, highlights how important it is for Virgin Media O2 not just to talk about new digital technologies, but to make use of them. And, on page 31 Infinigate Chief Business Development Officer Julien Antoine points out that while the IT channel constantly promotes digital transformation, many distributors, MSPs and resellers are years behind their customers on that journey. Some aren’t, of course, and the Technology Reseller Awards are the perfect opportunity for such organisations to celebrate those achievements and demonstrate their industry leadership.
