BDR CEO Named in Top 50 Most Ambitious UK Business Leaders

Bahman Rahimi, CEO of the west Midlands-based BDR Group, has been named one of the UK’s Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders for 2020.

The awards, run by the private equity arm of the Lloyds Banking Group, LCD, in conjunction with The Telegraph newspaper are intended to celebrate the inspiring leaders behind some of the UK’s most successful and fast-growing medium-sized firms.

There were more than 350 nominations and those profiled came from every corner of the country, operating across a multitude of industries.

Founded in 1991, BDR manages large technology rollouts for major retail brands around the world and has grown from a turnover of £8m to £30m in three years. Its head office is in Stratford-upon-Avon but it employs a total of 160 staff at sites around the UK.

Mr Rahimi’s ambitious goal is to reach £100m in five years. His staff strategy has been key to driving growth, offering perks such as staff getaways, flexible working, and office snooker and ping pong tables.

He acknowledged that in recent years organic growth has proven more challenging, so sticking to a single growth strategy was not a viable option. “We have blended in growth by acquisition during the last few years to complement our organic expansion, and have enjoyed good success in this field, completing several acquisitions of various sized businesses and assets. We are hoping to make further announcements before the end of this year,” he said.

The company came into its own during lockdown, rising to the challenge of supporting foodbanks like the Trussel Trust and supplying essential IT services to the NHS. lockdown.

Mr Rahimi explained: “We took over the NHS IT contract for five hospitals in Kent during lockdown. I’m a calm man but even I was worried about that one. We delivered the work with no problems and that was one of my proudest moments. We have been taking on new clients despite COVID-19 because so many organisations are now relying on automation.”

John Garner of LDC added:“The UK has a long-standing reputation for its entrepreneurial endeavour, but there has never been a more important time to recognise or back ambition in British business. The LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders aims to do just that. All of the inspiring leaders featured in our Top 50 this year have driven their business forward during a period of adversity, whether by expanding internationally, delivering real innovation, showcasing resilience or making a difference in their communities. They all deserve their place and I look forward to seeing their continued success.”
