HP, Vendor of the Year in the 2020 PrintIT Reseller Awards, is looking to ‘pay it back’ with the launch of the HP Amplify Impact sustainability programme
HP has expanded its HP Amplify channel partner programme, introduced in November 2020, with a new sustainability element called HP Amplify Impact.
This industry-first partner assessment, partner resource and partner training programme is designed to drive meaningful change globally, while also enabling partners to optimise sustainability-driven sales opportunities across HP’s eco-system.
HP is hoping to enrol at least 50% of its global channel partners on the voluntary programme by 2025.
It is currently available to commercial partners in 25 countries, but will be rolled out to all HP partners, in all countries by the end of 2021.
Christoph Schell, Chief Commercial Officer, HP Ink, said: “The time for talk is over and it is important for the IT industry to take bold actions…This new programme represents a major step forward in HP’s ambitious goal to become the most sustainable and just technology company by the year 2030.”
He added that participating in HP Amplify Impact is not just the right thing to do, but commercially advantageous as well, pointing out that in 2020, for the second year in a row, sustainability helped HP win more than $1 billion in new sales.
He said: “It is good for business; it is good for customer engagement; it is a differentiator. If you are a partner responding to an RFP, having some best practices on how you manage sustainability can set you apart from other partners responding to the same opportunities. For customers choosing a vendor, choosing a system integrator, choosing a value added reseller, this will make the difference. It will be a real differentiator.”
HP Amplify Impact can also help with recruitment, as 60% of millennials say they would prefer to work for an employer that contributes to social and ethical causes, as well as with finance as investors tilt their investment towards sustainability-focused companies.
Ellen Jackowski, Chief Sustainability and Social Impact Officer at HP, describes the programme as an ‘extension to HP’s overall sustainability strategy’ that will enable it to accelerate, scale and build on its existing achievements. These include:
*having more EPEAT Gold PCs than any other vendor;
*reducing use of single-use plastics in HP packaging by 75% by 2025;
*having 30% recycled plastic content in HP products by 2025;
*sourcing 1.7 million pounds of ocean-bound plastic (or 60 million plastic bottles) in Haiti for upcycling and use in more than 50 HP notebooks, Chromebooks, mobile workstations and displays;
*providing better learning outcomes for 100 million people by 2025 through online and offline HP Life courses; and
*changing HP’s employee performance management system to encourage all 55,000 HP employees to set a performance goal around their sustainable impact.
Taking the pledge
Mary Beth Walker, HP’s Head of Global Channel Strategy, explained that HP Amplify Impact will enable HP to share the experience, insight and expertise it has gained from implementing initiatives such as these with channel partners at every stage of their sustainability journey.
She said: “We have partners that are nowhere near the size and scale of HP that want to move forward but don’t have the resources to do so. Their ability to leverage what we have invested in, the training we have put together, the social media campaigns will make a huge difference to them and their ability to create a sustainability story.”
She added that the programme lays down a path for partners to follow, with four main steps:
1. Commit. Make a pledge to join HP’s Sustainable Impact strategy, focusing on planet (climate change), people (diversity) and community (the digital divide), and commit to tracking sustainability impact sales opportunities so that HP can monitor the success of the programme.
2. Assess. Assess current sustainability efforts, see how they compare to peers and identify areas for improvement.
3. Learn. Access sustainable impact training and sales and marketing resources to help design initiatives and take advantage of existing HP programmes, such as HP’s Sustainability & Compliance Centre (SCC), HP Life and Planet Partners.
4. Act. Implement a sustainability plan and capture sustainability sales opportunities.
