The IDC predicts a huge number of companies are moving to buy their hardware, software and services via an ‘as a service’ subscription plan. A number of businesses have been adopting subscription models as their standard way of staying ahead of the curve, reducing costs and remaining agile in today’s world.
Tech Data created Tech-as-a-Service (TaaS) to meet the growing enthusiasm amongst IT buyers for subscription-based consumption. They could see the opportunity to extend that model to hardware and further to that, to bring all IT solutions, software and services together into one complete offering.
The Tech-as-a-Service programme gives resellers a great way to not only drive higher margins and better cash flow, but also to improve customer retention and opportunities to grow their business.
With all their products, software and services managed under just one contract, it is simple to make follow-on sales, refresh and upgrade their customers’ solutions more frequently.
David Nelson, Services Director at Tech Data, explains. “Resellers are used to selling and businesses are used to buying hardware outright – but this is the same challenge that the industry faced with the cloud and that has become perfectly acceptable. We expect to see the same gradual acceptance with TaaS – but it may happen faster now, because everyone is already familiar with the cloud.”
Partnerships with Key Vendors
Many of Tech Data’s key vendors are actively involved in supporting the Tech-as-a-Service programme, including Microsoft. Software partners who haven’t previously selling hardware have the opportunity to make more money as part of the subscription offering.
As an example, one of the great products that is available on subscription is Office 365. It comes with premium apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher and Access (Publisher and Access available on PC only). The apps can be installed on multiple devices, including PCs, Macs, iPads, iPhones, Android tablets and Android phones. With a subscription, you get the latest versions of the apps and automatically receive updates when they happen. With services such as
1 TB of OneDrive storage, 60 Skype minutes per month and Microsoft chat and phone support, your customers will be reassured they have made the right choice.
Teamed up with one of the best MS Surface Pro products, the Surface Pro 6, customers can enjoy great prices.
David Nelson explains the benefits of Tech Data’s Tech-as-a-Service” subscription programme for customers
“When customers see the cost savings of purchasing through a subscription based plan, they can really see the benefits.
With reduced upfront IT investment, they can maximise their operational efficiency with limited in-house resources, and lower total cost of ownership.
All their products, software and services can be rolled into one affordable bill.
They also have the reassurance that with Tech Data’s Tech-as-a-Service programme, their subscription is compliant with key education, government and corporate regulations”
