Network Group’s resident Iron Man, Rob Boyns, and a team of riders are raising money for MND with their 500-mile charity cycle. Inspired by Doddie Weir and Rob Wainwright – 2 ex-Scottish Rugby internationals, the team are raising money for research into Motor Neurone Disease which affects him and many others across the UK.
Across two days they’ll cycle from Murrayfield in Edinburgh to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff for the Wales vs. Scotland Doddie Weir Cup match. They will join rugby legends Shane Williams, Wales’ record try-scorer, England’s Mike Teague and Scotland’s Rob Wainwright as well as cycling stars Sir Chris Hoy and Mark Beaumont on the mission to deliver the match ball for the 2.15pm kick-off on Saturday, February 12.
Riding in relays, they’ll pass through towns and villages stopping at various rugby clubs on the way to raise awareness of their cause. So far, they’ve raised a staggering £26,000+ for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Rob Boyns, of member company Boyns Information Systems Ltd said: “We hoped to raise £1,000 but we’ve had an incredible response with over 100 people donating and we want to say a big thank you to all of them. It’s going to be a tough challenge with over 8,000 metres of climbs but we’re doing it in relays and really looking forward to it and to engaging with people along the way, especially locally which is why we’re stopping for an hour at the schools in Bala and Llanuwchllyn.”
“There will be some famous faces among the riders including one heavyweight team of ex-Welsh forwards Alix Popham, Colin Charvis, Tony Copsey and Ian Gough.”
Network Group have supported MNDA twice in the past, most recently in 2017 where the Group raised over £11,000 at the annual Exhibition, Gala & Awards. They were overwhelmed with the Group’s effort, and we’re delighted to be able to continue supporting them by celebrating Rob’s efforts.

About My Name’5 Doddie Foundation
Doddie Weir OBE is one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities. A talented, committed and athletic lock forward, Doddie is now facing his biggest challenge. In June 2017 he revealed he was suffering from Motor Neuron Disease. From the outset, Doddie has been driven to help fellow sufferers and seek ways to further research into this, as yet incurable disease. In November 2017, Doddie and his trustees launched the registered charity, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Their vision is simple: A World Free of MND.
