Newcastle Hospitals invests in in-house 3D printing facility.

Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is set to transform patient care with a new in-house 3D printing facility provided by UK medical 3D printing firm axial3D.

The on-site 3D print lab at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, supported by axial3D, will give orthopaedic and spinal surgeons immediate access to patient-specific 3D printed models and reduce waiting times through automated workflows that remove time-consuming steps from the production process.

Managed in-house 3D printing facilities, sometimes known as Point-of-Care 3D Printing, are a novel way for hospitals to provide patient-specific 3D printed models for pre-operative planning and patient consent without the need to raise capital expenditure or deploy additional resources.

At moments of peak demand, extra prints can be produced at axial3D’s head office and shipped to the requesting Lawrence Jones clinician.
