Tech Data appoints business manager for AR/VR

As part of a strategic investment to help partners realise the growth potential of augmented and mixed reality in training, healthcare and retail applications, Tech Data has appointed Harry Ellis as dedicated business manager for mixed and virtual reality. Ryan Thomas, Tech Data Business Unit Manager, Mobile and Consumer Electronics, UK and Ireland, says that the combination of Tech Data’s hardware offering (Facebook Oculus, Microsoft Hololens and Google Glass) and the relationships it has with experts in cloud, collaboration and IoT solutions gives it a real edge in the market. He said: “It means that we can bring together all the pieces of the jigsaw – the cloud services and software, integration services, the sensors that might be required at the edge, and the AR/VR devices themselves – to support partners in delivering complete solutions that make use of mixed and augmented reality to solve real-world needs.”

New management appointments to drive transformation at Digital Space 

Managed services provider Digital Space (previously Timico) is advancing its customer-first growth strategy and cloud technology proposition with changes to its senior management team. David Jones, who joined Timico as Chief People Office in December 2019 after spells at Travis Perkins, Daisy Group and Vodafone, has been promoted to Managing Director of Corporate and SMB, with a focus on driving double-digit sales growth and increasing market share in the enterprise space and public sector; Jon Portlock, previously Head of Cloud Services at Exponential-e, has been made Customer Solutions Director; and Andrew Vize, the recently appointed Strategy and Marketing Director, has been promoted to the Executive Board as Chief Marketing Officer, with responsibility for driving Digital Space’s strategic transformation into a cloud-first managed services provider.

Union Street Technologies, a supplier of billing and provisioning solutions, has appointed Gary May as Sales Director, reporting to Managing Director Vincent Disneur. Known throughout the industry as founder of the channel-focused sales training consultancy Salesology, May will be pivotal in driving business growth and developing go-to-market strategies for new products and services. May said: “Back in 2013, I met Vincent at an industry event and Union Street went on to become one of Salesology’s first clients. We stayed in contact over the years and I’m very pleased to now be joining the Union Street team. New private investment, combined with a range of innovative new software products and cross-sell opportunities within the group, mean there’s never been a better or more exciting time to be a part of Union Street.”

Birch joins Ensono

Hybrid cloud provider Ensono has appointed Hannah Birch as General Manager and Deputy Managing Director, Europe. Birch is joining Ensono from Accenture where she led the company’s UK Technology Business for Insurance and was a member of the Technology Leadership Team for UK & Ireland. Before that she held leadership positions at Fujitsu Services UK and Computacenter. Barney Taylor, Ensono Managing Director, Europe, said: “With our recent acquisition of Amido and KKR’s investment in Ensono, we have significant momentum and an accelerated opportunity to invest and grow in both the UK and European markets. Hannah is the right person to drive our growth ambition and to continue to build on our reputation as a leader in the technology space.”

New Director of Channel Sales at Pulsant

Cloud and co-location specialist Pulsant has appointed Rob Darby as Director of Channel Sales to help channel partners capitalise on growing cloud and emerging edge opportunities through its colocation services. Darby has held several senior roles in the IT industry, including Sales Director and Commercial Director at channel-only IT services provider CommsCare, acquired by Ingram Micro in 2016. He said: “We recognise the huge emerging opportunities for channel organisations through the exponential growth of data from connected devices. This is resulting in an ever-growing need for edge computing, high capacity and low latency networks and multi-cloud strategies. Our aim is to be the go-to provider of colocation, cloud and networking services to the UK channel.” To this end, Pulsant recently invested £8 million in its edge infrastructure, using Zayo’s high performance fibre network to connect its 10 UK data centres and create an agile, high-capacity and low-latency network capable of delivering sub 5 millisecond latency and covering 97% of the UK.

Steve Preston takes reins at TrapX Security

TrapX Security, a specialist in deceptionbased threat detection and response, has promoted Steve Preston to Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Previously Senior Vice President of Strategy and Growth, Preston will take over from Ori Bach and assume day-to-day leadership of the company. Preston said: “The year 2020 made a huge impact on cyber security. Remote work, accelerated cloud adoption and the explosion of connected things have created a new landscape that conventional security simply cannot defend. Change is needed and we’re seeing the shift toward Active Defence. I’m honoured and excited to accelerate TrapX through the next stage of its journey.”

DWS Board of Directors now complete 

Digital Wholesale Solutions (DWS), the 100% channel focused technology platform, which was demerged from the Daisy Group in January, has completed the formation of its Board of Directors with the appointments of former Sage CEO Paul Walker and former Deloitte Senior Audit Partner Damian Sanders as independent non-executive directors. Paul Walker, currently non-executive chairman of Halma Plc and non-executive chairman of Ashtead Group, was Chief Executive of Sage Group from 1994- 2020 and has previously served on the boards of Diageo, Mytravel, Experian and Sophos. Damian Sanders, who was until recently a Senior Audit Partner at Deloitte in Manchester and a member of Deloitte’s North West Leadership Team, has acted as an advisor to a number of FTSE Boards and in 2020 was appointed independent non-executive director for The Hut Group (THG Holdings Plc) and Cineworld Plc..

Fiona Doak joins Appgate

Fiona Doak has joined secure access company Appgate as its Director of Channel Sales EMEA, with responsibility for the development and execution of Appgate’s channel-first business model in the region. Doak has more than 25 years’ experience in the cyber security industry, most recently at Duo Security where she was EMEA Partner Director. Before that, she held senior channel director roles at TrapX Security, WhiteHat Security, InfoBlox, F5 Networks and RSA Security.

Promotion for Mr Pro TV

PPDS, the exclusive global provider of Philips professional TV and digital signage products, has promoted Jeroen Verhaeghe to the role of International Business Manager for Hospitality. Known by colleagues as Mr Pro TV, Jeroen joined PPDS – under its original name – in 1998, since when he has held various positions, including, for the last 7 years, International Product Manager for Professional TVs. In this role, he masterminded the 2019 launch of Philips MediaSuite Android hospitality TVs, sales of which have now exceeded 110,000. As International Business Manager for Hospitality, Jeroen will work with customers (channel and end users) across EMEA and North America.

Agilitas IT Solutions expands senior management team

As part of an ambitious growth strategy, IT channel services provider Agilitas IT Solutions has expanded its senior management team with the appointments of Mike Angus as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Bev Markland as Chief People Officer (CFO). These additions follow the recent promotion of Richard Eglon from Marketing Director to Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Mike Angus joins Agilitas from a global security business, where, as CFO, he successfully completed and integrated over 12 acquisitions in 20 years. Bev Markland has more than 20 years’ experience in senior HR management roles.

New COO for Mode

Following the appointment of Alex Tupman as CEO in April, IT managed service provider Mode Solutions has appointed Clinton Groome as Chief Operations Officer. Groome is joining Mode from Conne3t, where he spent five years as VP of Operations. Alex Tupman said: “I am delighted that Clinton has joined Mode at this exciting time in our growth phase. Clinton’s understanding of business process and systems and running large teams of technical and support personnel will be highly valuable to our M&A strategy.” Mode started out more than 25 years ago as a managed print service provider before diversifying into managed IT and communications, following a Connection Capital-backed MBO in 2018 and the acquisition of Southamptonbased communications provider Nix Communications in 2019.

Axon IT promotion for Burrell

Axon IT, a Microsoft Gold Partner and provider of end-to-end cloud computing and communications solutions, has promoted Rob Burrell to Sales Director and Board Member after three years as Sales Manager. In his new role, Rob will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the sales department and delivering Axon’s commercial strategy together with his fellow directors.

Richard Gadd joins Cohesity from Hitachi Ventura

Multicloud data management vendor Cohesity has appointed Richard Gadd Vice President and General Manager, EMEA to manage the company’s business and sales operations throughout the region. Gadd joins Cohesity from Hitachi Vantara, where he worked for seven years, rising to Senior Vice President and General Manager EMEA. Prior to his time at Hitachi Vantara, Gadd held a variety of roles at EMC, Computacenter, Morse and Xerox. He said: “I’m thrilled to join the team at Cohesity. The company’s multicloud data management platform is empowering organisations to radically simplify data management and bolster security postures at a time when businesses need to be fully prepared for all manner of attacks, disasters and regulatory requirements.” Cohesity offers a full suite of services consolidated on one multicloud data platform – backup and recovery, disaster recovery, file and object services, dev/test, data compliance, security and analytics – reducing complexity and eliminating mass data fragmentation. 

Bluecube prepares for further growth

Lincoln-based telecoms provider Bluecube has taken on two new employees to cope with strong demand for its unified communications, cloud-based voice, high-speed internet and mobile services, following sales growth of 12% over the last 12 months. Ben Palmby is joining as a sales and account manager, with Becky Jolly strengthening the company’s technical support team.

New Chair and MD for DRC

DRC, the Newbury-based telecoms solutions provider, is gearing up for a period of expansion through acquisition and accelerated organic growth with the appointment of a new Chair, Roger Flynn, and new Managing Director, Sue Elliott. Roger Flynn has a track record of transforming growth businesses across the media and telecoms industry, most recently as Chair and Non-Executive Director at BGFbacked Olive Communications, which was sold to Onecom in February 2021. Sue Elliott joins DRC from Windsor Telecom, where she spent eight years on the senior leadership team as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer. DRC, which started out in 1989 fitting mobile phone car kits, provides its 600 mid-market customers with business mobiles, lines and calls, fixed lines and hosted telephony.

Zerto promotion for Wolf

As part of its on-going expansion in Europe, cloud data management and protection company Zerto has promoted Vera Wolf to VP of Sales EMEA. Her previous position of Sales Director CEMEA (Central Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) will be filled by Johannes Streibich, previously Regional Sales Manager for the DACH region. Wolf has played a pivotal role in Zerto’s success in the EMEA region over the last year, including leading several local EMEA regions to significant revenue growth and consistently exceeding sales metrics.
