NEC’s new Lone Worker Solution protects staff in remote locations and dangerous situations through a combination of the NEC IP DECT wireless infrastructure, NEC I766 DECT handsets, location detection beacons and a New Voice MobiCall alarm server. A remote worker can raise the alarm by pressing the SOS button or pulling the cord on their I766 handset. An alarm can also be triggered autonomously in the case of man-down or no-movement. All alarms are reported to a central dashboard showing the lone worker’s status and location.
Vodafone has expanded its V by Vodafone range with two new wearables and a smart home hub. The V-Kids Watch boasts safety features such as an SOS button and the ability for parents to exchange voice recordings with their children and set Safe Zones using geographic coordinates. The V-SOS Band for vulnerable family members includes an SOS button that sends a notification to family members with the wearer’s geographic coordinates and automatic alerts if they fall down. V-Home combines smart home devices and services to keep the home secure, including a security camera, indoor siren and the V-Home Hub, which connects all devices through an app.
Spitfire improves web ordering
Internet telephony service provider and ISP Spitfire has introduced a number of special offers to mark the launch of its improved online ordering portal. These include free of charge connection on VDSL Fibre Broadband on a 12-month contract, with the analogue bearer telephone line provided at just £49 connection (normally £99) with a £10 per month rental charge. For customers who sign up for a 24-month contract through the online portal, without the assistance of the Spitfire sales team, connection of the analogue line is also free of charge. Spitfire’s VStream Premium Essential connection is now only £35 a month, a market-leading price for VDSL 80/20 fibre broadband.

New from Symantec, Email Threat Isolation blocks advanced email attacks on end user devices, including spear-phishing, credential theft, account takeover and ransomware. It isolates suspicious links to risky web pages and creates a secure remote execution environment between users and malicious content so that only a safe visual representation of content is sent to the user. In addition, risky sites are rendered in read only mode, which prevents unsuspecting employees from disclosing sensitive information, such as corporate credentials.
