-Distributor already on the way to meeting ambitious goal – and wants to support partners that want to follow suit-
-DataSolutions also announces the launch of Techies Go Green, a movement of IT and tech-oriented companies who are committed to decarbonising their businesses-
DataSolutions, the specialised distributor of innovative IT and security solutions, today announces its commitment to becoming the world’s first carbon-neutral IT distributor by 2022. After measuring its carbon output in 2018 and 2019, DataSolutions has set a sustainability target for next year and has already made changes to ensure the goal is within reach as part of its ‘Go Green’ initiative.
In 2020 DataSolutions commissioned a report to analyse its carbon footprint and used this to set a carbon neutral target. DataSolutions has commissioned annual monitoring reports and are using the business directives from the 2015 Paris Agreement to overhaul the company’s processes to help achieve the goal. The actions DataSolutions has taken so far includes moving its ERP system and other corporate applications to the cloud, adding electrical cars and charging points to the business while cutting down business travel and encouraging working from home to reduce employee travel. DataSolutions also replaced its gas burning (fossil fuel) office heating system with a more efficient heat pump system. This is just the beginning too.
A key part of the DataSolutions’ Go Green initiative is supporting partners who also want to begin their sustainability journey and to achieve this goal the company has helped set up a movement called Techies Go Green. This movement will be officially launched at the Go Green Partner Webinar on March 24th, 2021. Techies Go Green is a community of IT and tech-oriented companies who are committed to decarbonising their businesses. The goal of Techies Go Green is to enable each member to purposefully improve their energy efficiency by collaborating and sharing practical know-how with the main aim of making every signatory carbon neutral by 2030.
Michael O’Hara, Managing Director, DataSolutions, said: “At DataSolutions, we’re owning our responsibility and setting ourselves ambitious, concrete targets to track and reduce our impact on the earth. We recognise the environmental impact of our operations. After all, the industrial and service sectors generate over 40% of global CO2 emissions. So, we want to play our part by becoming cleaner, greener and more energy efficient. This will benefit our customers, our people and the planet. With this in mind, we are taking action and calling on businesses across the UK and Ireland IT and technology communities to join us on this sustainability journey.”
“A great deal of our sustainability inspiration also comes from our vendor partners. A large number of our vendors have developed the tech solutions that many will rely on to similarly reduce their carbon footprint. For example, IGEL produces fanless desktop terminals, without hard drives, that can run on very low power and replace hefty desktop PCs and laptops. Citrix provides their 100 million users worldwide with flexible work solutions to help businesses manage the shift to remote working, reducing employee commutes and corporate office energy use in the process. These energy reductions may seem small, but their collective effect is massive and should not be ignored.”
